Still there when the card has gone in a drawer

Valentine's morning, a bunch of roses on the kitchen table. By the next weekend the petals are brown and the water smells.

This bunch is soap-flower roses, so it skips that part. It goes on the bedside table or the desk at work and stays there, the same colour it was on the day. For the person who keeps the ticket stubs and the cards, it's a gift that gets to stay too.

Why it works

A bouquet that stays put

Fresh roses have a week. This bunch sits on the desk, the windowsill or the bedside table for as long as they want it there.

Reads as roses
Each head is shaped petal by petal, so from across the room it looks like a bouquet someone just brought home.
Their colour
Deep red for a first Valentine's, champagne or navy for someone who'd skip the red. Two-tone white mixes too.

Nothing to look after
No vase water to change, no stems to trim, no petals on the table by Thursday.
Easy to hand over
At 75 g it's light enough to carry into a restaurant or slip in beside a bigger gift.

Anniversaries, birthdays and the thank-you in between

It isn't only a Valentine's gift. Pick red for an anniversary, pink or purple for a birthday, or blue and navy for someone who'd raise an eyebrow at a red rose.

It suits him or her, and it works as a present on its own or as the extra you add to a bigger one. Check the photos for each option, as the colour and head count change with the one you choose.

Questions, answered

Do I need to water it?

No. These are soap-flower roses, so there's nothing to water or trim. Keep the bouquet somewhere dry, away from the steam of a bathroom or the kitchen sink, and it stays as it arrived.

How many roses are in the bunch?

It depends on the option. Some colours come with 7 heads and others with 9. The option name says which, and the photos show the look of each one.

Is it a gift for him or for her?

Either. Red and pink suit a classic Valentine's, while blue, navy and champagne work well for someone who'd rather skip the red.

Can I use real water or put it in a vase with water?

Keep water away from it. The petals are soap, so they're made to be looked at and kept dry, on a shelf, desk or bedside table.
